About Avalie
As your tutor, my goal is to help you achieve academic and/or career success through meaningful learning experiences. I hold a Master's in Social Work from New York University, where I achieved the honor roll. I currently work as a therapist and have also founded my very own non-profit organization.
In addition to my professional qualifications, I'm also a published author with glowing reviews for my debut young adult contemporary novel. My research skills and writing expertise allow me to tutor students in various subjects related to English, psychology and similar social sciences/liberal arts.
Students consistently praise my teaching style for being engaging, supportive, and tailored to individual needs. I take the time to understand how each learner is wired in order to unlock their full potential. My lessons incorporate discussion, activities, and multimedia to keep students engaged and motivated.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, being creative, and cultivating my non-profit organization. As a tutor, my goal is to make learning engaging, fun, and tailored to each student's needs. I use a collaborative teaching style where we work as a team to unlock understanding. My lessons incorporate a variety of methods - from problem-solving discussion to hands-on activities - to keep students engaged. I also leverage multimedia such as presentations, videos, and even games to bring topics to life!
Each session begins with a review of the previous material and addressing any lingering questions. Then we dive into the new topic, with me providing an overview before giving students a framework to explore it themselves. This could involve analyzing case studies, practicing writing techniques, or discussing real-world examples. By the end, students demonstrate their comprehension and we map out how to apply the knowledge independently.
My experience as a professional in the fields I teach gives me unique insight beyond textbooks. As a published author, I understand the writing process inside and out. Students also benefit from my background in counseling, which helps me identify individual strengths and challenges. I make each lesson highly interactive and ensure students leave feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed. My goal is helping students develop long-term skills and confidence.
My lessons are suited for high school through college-level students, as well as working professionals looking to enhance their skills. I have experience tutoring those in psychology, social work, criminal justice, English and liberal arts programs. While sessions can be tailored for individual courses, my specialty areas include career readiness, standardized test prep, creative writing, and research.
