About Nina
There are few things more exhilarating to me than being able to enliven another student about the subjects that I'm passionate about -- history, social justice, and politics. I attempt to connect with my students on an energetic level, encouraging them to match my teaching energy with their learning energy-- to make learning into an exciting conversation, rather than a lecture. I am an expert at encouraging student understanding through the passion I share for the subject. I can most effectively provide this passion in studies of history, art history, US political science, dance, theater, philosophy, Spanish, writing, anthropology, humanities research, theology (history-based), & art.

I will teach my students humanities subjects through individual mental processing of the material-- learning by putting oneself in the context of the subject (in reality, via field trips, or virtually, via educational YouTube videos). We will learn humanities subjects by role-playing the experiences and mindsets of people during the relevant period.
If I were teaching a student about the federal government's organization, we would begin our lesson through the eyes of James Madison in 1778 as he was debating (through the Federalist Papers) how to best implement the values of the American Revolution into a political system. We would thus study the federal system in contrast with the British monarchy, mirroring Madison's thought process as he developed his Constitution. This lesson would not be based on general reading assignments, but rather a joint effort of picking relevant information out of the associated primary documents and discussing what makes it important.
I have a passion for teaching and have spent the past 4 years dreaming of becoming a history professor, but have needed to set that dream aside while I begin my entry into the workforce. I am skilled in lecturing positions where I can captivate my student audience. I have 5 years of experience teaching dance classes to ages 2-18 and a semester's experience teaching humanities research methods to college freshmen.
I can provide history, social studies, & art history tutoring services to any level of student. I can provide tutoring in other reading-based subjects (English, AP Lit, etc) at the high school level and lower.
