About Alex
I am a Texas State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and hands-on experience helping students strengthen their academic skills. My background in tutoring and social services has taught me how to listen carefully, communicate clearly, and meet people where they are. I bring patience, reliability, and professionalism to every session, while creating a comfortable space where students can ask questions without feeling embarrassed or judged.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, collaborative, and tailored to the individual student. I begin by identifying how the student learns best, where they are currently struggling, and what goals they want to accomplish. I then break complex material into smaller, manageable steps and use clear explanations, real-world examples, guided practice, and repetition when needed. I also help students develop study strategies, organization skills, and confidence so they can become more independent learners over time.
A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in and review of the student’s current assignments, concerns, or upcoming deadlines. We then set a clear goal for the session, review relevant concepts, and work through practice problems or assignments together. I encourage students to explain ideas in their own words so I can identify gaps in understanding. At the end of the session, we summarize what was covered, identify next steps, and create a manageable plan for continued practice.
What sets me apart is my background in psychology, social services, and university-level tutoring. I previously tutored students at Texas State University and understand that academic difficulties are not always caused by a lack of effort or ability. Students may also be managing anxiety, ADHD, autism, learning differences, executive-function challenges, or unfamiliar academic expectations. I offer a patient, judgment-free environment and adapt my communication style, pacing, and teaching techniques to meet each student’s needs.
My tutoring services are especially well suited for high school and college students, including undergraduate students taking psychology, social sciences, writing-intensive courses, or general education classes. I can assist with essay planning, research, editing, reading comprehension, study skills, test preparation, organization, and understanding difficult course material. I am also neurodivergent-friendly and welcome students who benefit from additional structure, visual explanations, repeated instruction, or alternative approaches to learning.

I met Alex through a mutual friend, and they were really easy to work with from the start. They’re patient, explain things in a way that actually makes sense, and never make you feel bad for not understanding something right away. Alex is also great at figuring out what kind of explanation works best for you instead of using the same approach with everyone. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a tutor who’s supportive, flexible, and genuinely helpful.
I met Alex through the tutoring program at Texas State University, where they worked with me as a tutor. What I appreciated most was Alex’s patience and ability to explain difficult material in a way that felt clear and approachable. During our tutoring sessions, Alex took the time to understand where I was getting stuck and adjusted their teaching methods instead of simply repeating the same explanation. They created a supportive, judgment-free environment where I felt comfortable asking questions and working through challenging concepts. I would highly recommend Alex to students looking for a knowledgeable, dependable, and encouraging tutor who genuinely cares about helping students build both their skills and their confidence.
