About Stanley
Hi, I’m Stanley, and I’m currently studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Auckland. I have a mixed heritage—half Japanese, half European—and I’ve always had a strong interest in math, especially calculus, algebra, and related topics.
I studied NCEA Calculus in college and have always found these areas of math to come naturally. Over the years, I’ve helped my siblings and friends with their studies, and through that, I discovered a real enjoyment in teaching and breaking down complex concepts in a way that’s easier to understand.
If I weren’t studying engineering, I’d likely be teaching math. My experience with NCEA, combined with a solid understanding of Cambridge and IB curricula, allows me to help students across different systems. I’m passionate about helping others build confidence and succeed in their math courses, and I take pride in finding clear, practical ways to explain difficult topics.

WHY IN-PERSON?
I believe that in-person tutoring offers a more effective learning experience compared to online sessions. When we're face-to-face, it allows for better personal interaction, enabling me to gauge your understanding in real-time and adapt the lesson to your needs. It also allows for immediate feedback and clarification, which can be harder to achieve in an online environment where distractions can be more prevalent.
Additionally, in-person sessions create a more focused atmosphere, allowing for greater engagement and personalized instruction. The ability to work through problems together, explain concepts on the spot, and adjust the pace according to your understanding helps create a more productive learning environment.
Because of these benefits, I charge a slightly higher rate so that i can come to you for in-person tutoring, but I believe the added value in terms of focus, interaction, and effectiveness is well worth the investment in your learning.
OPTIMAL STUDY?
I believe that the most effective tutoring schedule is 1-2 sessions per week, with each session lasting 60-90 minutes. This balance allows for thorough coverage of material while preventing student fatigue. It provides enough time to explain concepts, work through problems, and answer questions, while also giving the student time to process and practice in between sessions.
For exam preparation or more intensive study, increasing the frequency to 3-4 times a week or slightly longer sessions can be beneficial. However, I find that consistent, focused sessions are far more effective than cramming in long, irregular sessions. This frequency and duration allow for steady progress and deeper understanding, making it the optimal approach to learning.
