About Rohit

I am a first year Natural Sciences student at the University of Cambridge, studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, so my subject knowledge is fresh and up to date. Having recently studied Physics A-level myself, I also have recent experience of how to succeed at school examinations. At school, I spent a year giving a fellow student weekly tuition sessions in A-level Physics, which involved helping him to understand difficult topics, going through questions, and giving him tips on exam technique. I am therefore experienced at building a relationship with students over time and tailoring lessons to their needs. In Cambridge, I am part of a teaching placement programme where I work as an assistant classroom teacher for pupils in local schools, which has given me further experience with teaching and the opportunity to learn from a professional teacher.

About the lesson

My teaching method would depend on your specific aims as a student, but there are a few general principles that I follow.

In our first lesson, I would look to get an idea of your current level by talking to you about your experience with physics and getting you to informally talk me through a couple of questions. This, along with an understanding of your personal aims, will help me tailor lesson plans specifically to you.

I would initially use my lessons to make sure that any gaps in your fundamental knowledge and understanding can be filled, and I do this by talking you through concepts directly and in my own words, rather than referring you to explanations found in textbooks, which can sometimes be lacking in the depth and clarity necessary to properly grasp complicated topics. For some students, the teaching of fundamental knowledge will be my priority, because I find that one of the most common reasons that students struggle at school is that they are too quickly exposed to questions and problems, before anyone has taken the time to ensure that their basic knowledge and understanding is secure enough for them to approach questions with confidence.

After teaching a new topic, I will usually set you problems to do outside of lessons, to be handed in to me before our next lesson (if possible) so that I can mark it and go over it with you during our next lesson. This allows me to see areas of difficulty and tailor my next lesson accordingly. I can source or create a wide range of different questions (including university level questions for those that want to be pushed further) and I set each student a unique set of questions each week based on their needs.

In addition, if you are preparing for an exam, I can work with you to devise a lesson plan that allows you to be prepared as possible in the time we have remaining. This could include help with past papers, exam techniques, revision notes and any other exam-related help you might need.
