About Cynthia

My name is Cynthia Lona, I am currently a college sophomore majoring in Biology for Pre-medicine. My dream is to become a dermatologist and open a private clinic. I am the oldest child in my house and having Spanish-speaking parents I did not have anyone to help me with homework as a kid. Although it was difficult it taught me a lot of problems solving skills, and ultimately I graduated with high honors. I went into a lot of programs for the ACT as well to get the highest score possible and ended up with a 30. My younger brother has dyslexia and struggles a lot with reading and writing. I learned a lot about his difficulty understanding literature and I did my best to support him. That experience taught me a lot about patience and gave me a new perspective on students struggling with learning. My self-reliance has helped me a lot to push through high school and the beginning of college. Yet, it is important to understand that people learn at different speeds and with different approaches. Some people simply need an extra push or time. I believe that everyone has the potential to succeed but needs to find the right ways to approach their problems in everyday life and in education.

About the lesson

My teaching style is very hands-on, I like doing work together and giving many examples of how to approach problems. It is very important to see different perspectives to see how different people work on problems in various ways. Once there is a clear understanding of the problems I then like to let the student attempt the questions. It is important for me to connect with the student so there can be comfort in order to work smoothly together. I have taught in bible school for about a year now, I usually stick to elementary or middle school ages but have tutored high schoolers too. I tutored my brother during middle school, he struggles with dyslexia but together we have worked hard to get him a good ACT for college. I have also tutored a lot of my high school friends for the ACT since I took a boot camp to fully understand the test. I am also a native Spanish speaker and am glad to represent my culture. I have a lot of patience with teaching and am willing to take as much time as needed for someone to fully understand. I would say that my background sets me apart, I went through high school learning by myself and studying hard to be successful. Now I just wanna share my knowledge and help those who need someone for support.
