About SOLANGE

I am a native bilingual speaker of Spanish and French, with a degree in English Philology and a strong academic background in linguistics and language acquisition.

Languages have always been part of my life. I grew up bilingual in Spanish and French and later learnt English to an advanced academic level. Experiencing both language acquisition and language learning has given me a particular understanding of how differently we can relate to a second language — and why confidence, first-language interference or previous learning experiences can sometimes become real barriers to progress.

I have taught languages for many years in British-curriculum schools, sixth-form education, language academies and adult education. My experience includes teaching Spanish Language at A-Level, French at GCSE and A-Level, and preparing students for Cambridge, AQA and Edexcel examinations.

Over the years, I have become increasingly interested in what prevents students from using a language they may already know surprisingly well. This is why I now prefer to work individually with students: discovering how each student learns, identifying what may be holding them back and helping them develop both linguistic competence and confidence.

For me, teaching a language is not simply about correcting mistakes or completing exercises. It is about helping students understand how the language works, overcome the barriers that limit them and gradually become confident, independent language users.

About the lesson

My lessons begin with the individual student, not with a standard programme.

I first identify strengths and difficulties across the four language skills — speaking, listening, reading and writing — and then tailor our work to the areas where support is genuinely needed.

For GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level students, I combine language development with examination technique and focused practice using the requirements of their syllabus.

I place particular emphasis on speaking confidence. Many students understand far more Spanish than they believe they can express. My aim is to help them turn that knowledge into confident, natural communication.

As a native Spanish speaker and linguist with experience teaching within the British curriculum, I can also explain why errors occur, particularly when English structures are transferred into Spanish.

My goal is not simply to help students pass an examination, but to give them the understanding, strategies and confidence to become increasingly independent language learners.
