About Lana

I’m half Japanese, half French, originally from Hiroshima and now living in London. Outside of teaching I love cooking, eating, and watching sitcoms like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, I’ve seen them all more times than I should admit. I grew up playing ice skating and volleyball, so I’m never short of energy!
When I moved to Ireland at 15 alone I had no English at all. None. It was really hard and that’s actually what makes me the teacher I am. I know exactly what it feels like to sit there and understand nothing, to slowly start picking things up, and how much it means when someone makes it a little easier for you. I spent 8 years there before moving to London, and that experience never leaves you.
Learning from a textbook can be fun, but there were times I wished there was another way through TV shows, through things you actually enjoy and use in real life. That’s exactly why I’m here. I teach all levels, from complete beginners to exam preparation, and we work in whatever way suits you best. A textbook if you like structure, or your favourite show, anime, movies whatever keeps you engaged. If it’s something you genuinely enjoy, you’ll actually remember it.
I’ve already helped a friend pass a formal Japanese exam equivalent to an A Level, so whether your goal is an exam, a trip to Japan, understanding anime, or just having a real conversation let’s make it happen.

About the lesson

Hi! I’m Lana, a native Japanese speaker originally from Hiroshima, now based in London. I learnt English by living in Ireland for 8 years, so I really do understand what it’s like to be thrown into a new language the confusion, the small wins, the moments it finally clicks. That experience shapes the way I teach completely.
I teach online and I work with all levels complete beginners, people who’ve studied a bit and got stuck, and students working towards formal exams. I’ve already helped students pass Japanese courses at an assessed level, so whether your goal is to pass a test, travel to Japan, enjoy anime without subtitles, or just have a conversation, I’ve got you.
The way we learn is completely up to you. Some people like working from a textbook clear structure, visible progress. Others prefer to learn through TV, drama or anime, which is honestly one of the best ways to pick up natural, real Japanese. We can mix it all up too. I just want it to feel useful and enjoyable, not like homework.
Lessons are online, relaxed, and built around what you actually want to get out of Japanese. Let’s figure that out together!
