About Marilou

I’m a friendly and dedicated tutor with a background in kinesiology (in French) and sociology (in English), as well as experience as a national team rower. My studies have helped me understand how people learn and communicate, while sport has taught me patience, consistency, and how to support others in reaching their goals through teamwork. I bring a positive, encouraging energy to my lessons and aim to create a space where students feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to improve. You can expect clear explanations, thoughtful preparation, and someone who genuinely cares about your progress.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, adaptable, and focused on building both confidence and practical language skills. I believe that learning a language should feel engaging and relevant, so I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, whether that is academic success, travel, or everyday communication.
A typical lesson usually begins with a short review of previous material, followed by the introduction of a new concept, for example, a grammar point or vocabulary theme. We then practice together through exercises, speaking activities, or role-play conversations. I like to end each session with a brief recap and, if needed, a small task or suggestion for independent practice to consolidate learning.
What sets me apart is my ability to adapt quickly to each student’s pace and learning style, while creating a supportive and motivating environment. From years of training in a high-performance environment on the rowing national team, I have learned to always look for new ways to overcome difficulties and obstacles that I plan to integrate into my teaching style. My background in sociology also helps me bring cultural context into lessons, making language learning more meaningful and connected to real-world use.
My lessons are for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. I work with students who need help with school coursework, exam preparation, or conversational practice. I also support adult learners who want to improve their French for travel, work, or personal enrichment. Each lesson is customized to fit the student’s needs, level, and objectives.
