About Grace

I am a US-native English speaker, EWHA alum, and current University Professor with both degrees and practical academic experience from three continents. I have taught, and am currently teaching, College and University Humanities and STEM to students from a wide range of cultural and academic backgrounds, including many for whom English is a second or third language. My academic journey has taken me from the US, Asia, the UK, and beyond, giving me both a deep understanding of English-language academic standards and the ability to bridge cultural differences in writing style and communication. I offer an entirely unique, informed perspective on what competitive universities are looking for, and how to help students meet and exceed those expectations. I believe in high standards, clear guidance, and genuine collaboration. The students I work with are ambitious, dedicated, and ready to put in the effort required to produce exceptional work. Whether their goal is to prepare a university application with native tone, structure, and polish; to refine a dissertation to both read clearly and impress; or to strive for excellence in everyday coursework until high-level achievement becomes routine, I will work with them to help them achieve the absolute best results.

About My Lessons: I coach ambitious, dedicated students to produce essays, theses, and dissertations at an exceptional academic standard. As a US-native English speaker, EWHA alum, and current University Professor with degrees from three continents, I have taught Humanities and STEM to both native and non-native English speakers. My goal is to guide students toward producing the precision, structure, and polish expected by top universities worldwide. My lessons are intensive, results-driven, and designed for students willing to put in the work required to achieve outstanding results. Teaching Methods & Techniques: I use a highly personalized, results-focused approach tailored to each student’s skills and goals. Lessons begin with a thorough diagnostic of the current draft, followed by targeted feedback on structure, clarity, and overall strength. I combine Socratic questioning (to strengthen critical thinking) with line-by-line feedback (to refine language and style). My aim is not simply to “fix” submitted work, but to make each student a stronger, more independent writer. A Typical Lesson Plan (40 minutes) Review – Discuss the submitted work and define the session’s goal; i.e., improving the thesis statement, refining the outline, restructuring a weak section. Draft Work – Collaboratively review and edit the essay, thesis, or dissertation in real time. Skill Practice – Apply a specific writing or editing technique to strengthen understanding of university-level expectations. Expectations – Leave with a clear set of revisions and skills to practice before the next session. What Sets Me Apart Dual Expertise: US-native English speaker with advanced degrees and a current professorship in both Humanities and STEM — able to coach across disciplines and levels. International Perspective: EWHA alum with experience guiding students in Asia toward success in Western academic environments. High Standards: I work exclusively with ambitious, dedicated students committed to top-level results. Proven Outcomes: My students earn higher grades, win scholarships, and secure admission to competitive universities. Who These Lessons Are For Undergraduate and postgraduate students writing essays, theses, or dissertations in English. University applicants preparing admissions essays or personal statements. Motivated learners aiming to master academic writing for English-speaking institutions.

Superprof automatically requires tutors to display an hourly rate, a “first lesson free,” and 5-hour and 10-hour package options. Please note these are site defaults only and do not reflect my actual offer. My lessons are 40 minutes at $88 SGD (not a full hour). In my experience, 40 minutes is the ideal balance for focus, retention, and progress for students at this level. I do not provide a free first hour. Instead, the first paid lesson is carefully structured to give students a clear sense of my teaching approach, so you’ll know right away whether we’re a good fit. I also do not offer bulk “5-hour” or “10-hour” packages. Any such listings are placeholders required by the platform. Currently, I am opening only five weekly spaces. This limited schedule ensures that I can give each student my full attention and consistent, high-quality support alongside my work as a university and college professor. For students who demonstrate strong progress, I may also offer occasional hour-long consultations for exam preparation or deeper study, as well as in-person 3-day and 5-day intensives. These intensives are invitation-only and reserved for students who have already shown strong commitment and readiness for accelerated learning. Because of this limited capacity, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to families who wish to work with me once the five weekly spaces are filled, or who would prefer more than one weekly session. My priority is maintaining professional quality and consistency for all of my students.
