About Colan
I’m a native English speaker from South Africa, currently based in New Zealand, with a PhD in conservation genetics. I love working with people and helping them build confidence in their learning. Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about nature, sustainability, and the outdoors, and I enjoy hiking, gardening, cooking, and am just starting to learn Italian.

My teaching approach is practical, supportive, and tailored to your goals. I focus on building confidence through active use of English, combining conversation with targeted work on grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. For academic English, I help you develop clear, structured writing and critical thinking skills.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but I’m happy to adapt the length and format to suit your needs.
I hold a PhD in conservation genetics and have experience teaching and mentoring university students, particularly in academic writing and communication.
My lessons are suitable for all levels—from beginners to advanced learners—including school students, university students needing help with essays or theses, and adults looking to improve their everyday or professional English.
