About Andrea
I'm a Vancouver-born Canadian who's spent 10 years living in Paris, where I've taught one-on-one English lessons for over six years. I am passionate about helping people unlock new opportunities in life with their newfound confidence and competence in English.
With my diverse professional background in the film business, photography, and studio art, my students appreciate the creative and flexible approach I bring to teaching, which is often very different than what they've experienced in school. It keeps them motivated and eager to use their language skills in real life. In fact, some of the students I started teaching five or six years ago still book weekly lessons because they enjoy having regular discussions to keep their English flowing.
I've done a TEFL certification and I have a diploma in General Studies and another one in Studio Art from Capilano College. Before starting to teach, I worked in the film industry for 9 years and then launched a business as a professional photographer in 2005 (which I still do alongside my teaching). I also teach photography, image editing, and AI image creation, in case you're interested!

I approach teaching with the philosophy that learning is most effective when it is fun, so I bring humour and creativity to my lessons for any age and any outcome. Whether you're looking to improve your English for career advancement or looking for engaging tutoring for your children or teens, I will adapt my style and methodology to meet your needs, while always keeping the learning atmosphere light and stress-free. (As a language learner myself, I understand the advantages of practicing in a non-judgmental atmosphere.)
I offer a free 30-minute introductory lesson to discuss your objectives and assess your current English level with some simple conversation. I will then outline some priorities for improving your English moving forward.
The majority of my students enjoy lessons based on conversation, with some grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation explanations and exercises woven into the lesson. I can help you improve your writing or reading comprehension as well. Lessons are 100% personalized, so I can incorporate fun games and exercises for kids, or more business-oriented practice for adults.
For exam preparation, interview preparation, or presentation preparation, the lessons can be more structured in order to address specific needs. I have helped students prepare for language proficiency exams such as the IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge and Duolingo.
If you're looking for an enjoyable and stress-free way to quickly take your English to the next level and gain the confidence needed to actually use it, send me a message and let's chat! I have lots of great reviews and have reached "Ambassador" status on the Superprof website in France (the one with the ".fr" ending), but I'm new here on the Canadian Superprof site. Send me a message today and take a lesson for a test drive!
