About Yara

I was born and raised in Brazil, where I spent the first 20 years of my life surrounded by a culturally diverse family and exposed to many different Brazilian accents and regional ways of speaking. Growing up in that environment gave me a deep understanding of how rich and varied Brazilian Portuguese truly is.

At the age of 20, I moved to the United States, which expanded my perspective and strengthened my ability to help English speakers understand Portuguese in a clear and practical way.

Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about music production and creativity, and I love spending time stargazing and learning about the universe. One of my dreams is to someday have powerful telescopes in my backyard and deepen my knowledge in astronomy, perhaps even exploring radio astronomy and the science behind antennas and signals. I also enjoy philosophy, spending time in nature, and learning from different cultures and perspectives, which I believe makes language learning richer and more meaningful.

About the lesson

Brazilian Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, with over 215 million native speakers, making Brazil the largest Portuguese-speaking country and one of the most culturally influential nations in Latin America.

Learning Portuguese opens doors not only to communication but also to a deeper understanding of Brazil’s literature, music, philosophy, and diverse cultural traditions. According to the Instituto Camões and Ethnologue language reports, Portuguese is among the top ten most spoken languages globally, and its importance continues to grow in areas such as international business, culture, and travel.

My approach to teaching focuses on making the language meaningful and enjoyable for each student. No matter your age or experience level, we can learn Brazilian Portuguese through the things that genuinely interest you, whether that is music, sports, philosophy, travel, or everyday conversation, so the learning process becomes natural, engaging, and connected to the real world.
