About Jana
I am a 22-year-old University College London student graduating this summer and starting my master's in law in September. I am a native bilingual in English and French because my mother tongue is English but I lived in France and did all my schooling in French until I moved to London 4 years ago. I have nearly 5 years of experience teaching English and French as a second language. I have given private English and French classes for students ages 8-23 generally beginner and intermediate levels (A1,A2, B1, B2). I have also volunteered as a language tutor for refugees helping fluent speakers to solidify their writing skills. At UCL, I tutored French to Bachelor's level students studying languages (levels C1/C2). Having grown up in a trilingual household and moved abroad to England and Spain, I understand the challenges of learning to communicate in a second language. However, speaking different languages is an incredible advantage and I love sharing my passion for French with my students!

My teaching method is communicative. I focus on verbal communication, putting the emphasis on oral expression and communication. The importance of grammar and structural rules are not underestimated but taught for communicative purpose. I base my lessons on specific situations (at work, on vacation, shopping...) with emphasis on vocabulary and dialogue. I also work on listening, reading and writing skills that accompanies direct learning. That said, the method I use to teach French will be adapted to the needs and difficulties of the student. For example, for children strengthening a second language I like to prepare creative activities so they engage with the language in a fun way. For students preparing for an exam (GCSE, A-level, etx) I follow the curriculum while emphasising their areas of difficulty.
I have experience teaching ages 8-22 but am comfortable teaching all ages and levels.
