About Matthew

Nationally ranked 1st in 2024, I fell in love with the art of spoken words. Our ability to advocate for ourselves on a stage is the most powerful tool we have, but most fail to effectively communicate. My goal as a teacher is to help others feel more comfortable speaking in front of others so that their voice, words, and messages can shine through. Our presence should serve as an enhancer, not an obstruction to the quality of our true messages.

Public speaking is also the most practical skill one should develop. In any field, collaboration and cooperation is essential, and learning to concisely engage an audience will lead to one's instrumental success in the future.

About the lesson

As the speech and debate coach at Branham High School and the 2024 top speaker at the parliamentary national tournament, my teaching is rooted in both techniques that I have created and strategies from discussions with other nationally acclaimed coaches. Everything you will learn has been tried and tested in real speech and debate rounds.

Depending on your skill level and preference, lessons can vary between learning techniques, evaluating speeches, or practicing drills. Each lesson will be focused on refining a certain skill such as rhetoric, body language, etc.

My lessons are perfect for:
Casual speakers: Anyone that wants to learn how to deliver speeches in front of their class, meet new people, and become more confident can learn tips, tricks, and strategies to be carefree and comfortable in front of others. As someone who used to be afraid of even giving a 5 minute presentation, I understand the fears of the casual speaker---and how to overcome them.
Competitive orators: Those in competitive speech and debate events can learn strategies that will differentiate them from other competitors and secure more ballots. As students reach higher levels, refining and speaking with unique styles becomes essential, or else they will find it hard to differentiate themselves.

What sets me apart?
As a debater and speaker that learned autodidactically, I learned more than tricks to success. I largely hold a holistic view of many different speaking styles and am not constrained to one certain device. Thus, I can help you refine your speaking as an individual, not teach you formulas to "fit in" with the rest of the world.
