About Jamie
I’m based in Phoenix, AZ and available both in-person and online. I have a film degree from the University of Arizona, spent years working at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and have been teaching in Phoenix classrooms for several years now. I ended up in education because I genuinely like working with people and figuring out how they learn best — it’s not that different from filmmaking, honestly. Both are about effective collaboration.
I know firsthand that these subjects are often made more complicated than they need to be, and my goal is to bridge that gap and help you thrive. Sessions don’t feel like class — more like a conversation where we work through things together and actually make progress. I adapt to you, not the other way around.

I’ve spent years doing two things I love: working in film and teaching kids. On the film side, I worked at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — yes, the Oscars people — and founded a national cinematic society. On the teaching side, I’ve worked with K-10 students across Phoenix and helped kids make real progress, including bringing 8th graders’ reading levels up from 1st grade to 6th in a single semester through intervention methods.
I offer lessons in understanding filmmaking, screenwriting, photography, general arts, and English. I’ve lived in both worlds long enough to know how to actually explain things — not just talk at you. Lessons are relaxed, personalized, and built around what you or your student actually needs.
