About Ashnaa
Hello! My name is Ashnaa Narumathan, and I am currently an MSc Physiotherapy student. Alongside my academic career in healthcare, music has been a lifelong passion of mine. I have been playing the piano for over 16 years and completed up to Grade 9 in the Royal Conservatory of Music program.
Over the past several years (7 years), I have had the privilege of teaching piano to students of a wide range of ages (6-60+) and experience levels. I find it incredibly rewarding to help students build confidence, develop strong technical foundations, and experience the joy that comes with learning an instrument.
My background in physiotherapy and previous teaching experiences have also strengthened my teaching approach, as I emphasize patience, student-centered learning, and attention to proper technique. I strive to create a supportive and motivating environment where students feel encouraged to challenge themselves and take pride in their progress.
Outside of teaching and studying, I enjoy staying active, working with people, volunteering within my community, and continuing to develop my own musical skills.

My teaching approach focuses on creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students develop both a genuine love for the instrument and strong technical foundations. I aim to help students build confidence at the piano while developing discipline, musicality, and problem-solving skills through music.
With over 7 years of teaching experience and having worked with students ranging from ages 6 to 60+, I tailor each lesson to the student’s level, learning style, and goals. My lessons are well suited for students learning the instrument for the first time, beginners building foundational skills, and intermediate students looking to further develop their technique and musical understanding.
My teaching combines repertoire-based learning with music theory to help students understand not only how to play, but why music works the way it does. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps and reinforce them through guided practice, repetition-based exercises, and structured homework.
A typical lesson includes a technical warm-up with scales or exercises, review and refinement of previously assigned pieces, introduction of new repertoire, and clear guidance on how to practice effectively between lessons.
What sets my lessons apart is my underlying goal for teaching, which is to help every student feel capable, motivated, and proud of their progress with the piano.
