About Kemal

My own path into music was actually unconventional: I taught myself for the first sixteen years, relying entirely on intuition and sound. This laid the groundwork for the educational principles I’ve carried throughout my professional life. Later, through formal training at the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Bristol, I learned what it means to balance both worlds. That experience proved to me time and again that intuition and creativity are the cornerstone of music-making — not an afterthought once the theory is learned." I believe everyone has this musical intuition. It is fundamental to our creativity as human beings, and it is always the starting point of my lessons. At the same time, I recognise that certain technical elements are essential, particularly for those working towards qualifications such as GCSEs, A levels, or ABRSM exams. Over the years I have taught in all of these contexts. I created a course for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music which reached 200 primary schools across the UK. I have moderated GCSE and A level examinations, supported university admissions at the Royal Academy of Music, and coached students privately for these same bodies. At the Junior Royal Academy of Music, 90% of my students went on to university or conservatoire, while 95% of my GCSE and A level pupils achieved a grade 7 or above, with some receiving full marks. Not everyone faces the same obstacles in music, but all can be dealt with quite easily— whether fear, nerves, or, in the very sad but all too common case, being told they are not “naturally musical” — these barriers can be overcome with the right guidance. Once they are, students often surprise themselves with what they can achieve. I look forward to helping you discover that potential.

I teach with a balance of clarity and creativity. My lessons focus on making music theory and composition practical and engaging — not just abstract rules, but tools you can use in your own music-making. I often combine listening, analysis, and writing exercises so students understand both how music works and how to apply it in their own compositions. A typical lesson lasts one hour, though advanced students sometimes choose longer sessions to allow for in-depth composition feedback. Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, whether preparing for GCSE, A level, conservatoire auditions, university study, or simply learning for personal growth. I taught Juniors and Seniors for 8 years at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, and have over 15 years of experience teaching in schools and outreach programmes — working with everyone from beginners taking their first steps in theory to advanced students developing professional portfolios. As a professional composer, I bring real-world experience from commissions with leading ensembles and institutions into my teaching. My lessons are open to all ages and levels, from school pupils who need exam support to adults who want to deepen their understanding of music and creativity.
