About Alex
I am a music director and multi-instrumentalist originally from Toronto, now coaching across Canada. I have worked with 100+ artists in hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul, and more as a live music director, curating events for various festivals and boutique concert series. This includes indie to major label artists and Grammy-winning music creatives. I have also been a live music venue and recording studio owner/operator, which is where I ran my not-for-profit music education programs for about 5 years. Teaching 400+ musicians over the last ~10 years, my alumni have earned Grammy nominations, publishing deals, major song placements, staff vocal coach positions for major labels, and backing instrumentalist and vocalist positions for internationally touring major label acts. I continue coaching for organizations, facilitating workshops of 20-40 people to make elite development more accessible. Bachelor's degree from the top Canadian contemporary music college. Mentored and studied under legendary music educators and internationally acclaimed musicians.

Fun is a major part of the process, removing pen and paper, and coaching your brain to teach itself away from the instrument and transfer the knowledge in real situations. My methods are very unique with various music organizations flying me around Canada to teach these topics and more. My methods fast-track the process and demystify the basics as we advance into professional concepts. Over 5-10 weeks, this covers: • key signatures (1-2 lessons) • intervals (1-2 lessons) • chord building (1-2 lessons) • modes (1 lesson) • basic functions (1 lesson) • diatonic chord tensions (1-2 lessons) Then, we introduce instruments with analysis for your musical interests to explore: • modal interchange with pentatonics in practice • dominant and diminished harmony introducing Dr. Barry Harris methods and bebop scales • developing chord voicings with textures of harmonic implications • concepts that break the typical rules that are commonly accepted

Alex’s coaching has allowed me to understand music in a new way, opening up musical experiences and abilities I’d never imagined.
His methods for teaching music are simple, intuitive and challenging; anyone willing to show up and do the work will undoubtedly become a better musician.
His vocal teachings in particular have given me the skills and techniques to work through significant performance anxiety… helping me develop the confidence required to share and make music with others.
I’m forever grateful for Alex’s passion and dedication to improving the quality of music and building communities around rhythm and sound.(I am a student of Donny)
Where can I even begin! This man has an incredibly strong understanding of all of his knowledge, to a point that he has the ability to simplify the methods of learning and make it accessible to anyone willing to put the effort in! He is greatly focused on the betterment of all those involved with him, and is an absolute blessing of a connection! He is patient, direct, and tremendously thorough. Studying under him has been the most value-per-hour I have ever received on the topic of music!I have known and been a student of Alex’s for about 4 years now! His teaching methods are extremely effective and yield very quick learning results. I owe everything I know about music to him! I have seen the dramatic results of his teaching style in many of his other students over the years as well! Alex is kind, FUN, while remaining dedicated to your learning. Can’t recommend his teaching enough!!!
Started working with Alex about a year ago with absolutely 0 theory knowledge. In the past year I have progressed faster with him than I have with any other music teacher. His teaching style is fast and effective. It is evident that he is able to pivot and work with multiple learning styles. He has helped me immensely and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn and take the next step in their theory skills.
