About Katherine

I have learnt Guzheng for over 22 years, while teaching Guzheng for more than 10 years. It's part of my life. I am a Contemporary/Experimental Guzheng Musician.

I am available to teach from Classical to Experimental guzheng repertoires systemically and scientifically. I am a patient, gentle but rigorous teacher. Most of my students can improve their abilities in playing Guzheng efficiently fast once they have nice basic techniques. As an example, one of my students is a complete beginner. After she followed my guide tightly, she reached grade three in one year, obtaining good gesture, music phrases, and accurate rhythms. Through teaching, I am also keen to know how students think and appreciate music pieces. And let them have their own abilities in performing and music appreciation.

Qualification:
National Taiwan University of Arts: Bachelor's Degree in Guzheng

Currently:
Royal Northern College of Music: Master of Music in Composition

About the lesson

I teach Guzheng from beginners to advanced (highest Grade 10) students both online and at the students' home who are located in Manchester. And do teach online for worldwide students. Had experience teaching Hong Kong, Taiwan, the US and the UK's students more than 10 years.

 In lessons, I always focus on fundamental practices and technical aspects, such as posture, finger strength, movements and articulation. The part of fundamental practices will always included in every sessions. Moreover, I focus on expression and interpretation, that means how students think of the notes and how they present the music. Most of the time, we will start with fundamental training, followed by those music pieces. The last part of the session will be dedicated to the review and assignments. Besides, I also teach both Chinese Music theory and music theory as well to help with better understanding and learning of Music.
