About Mary
I am most known for singing and writing the hook on the GRAMMY-nominated song "Same Love" with Macklemore. I have a Bachelor's of Music from Cornish College of the Arts, and was signed to Capitol Records. I have released six albums and perform regularly. My lessons are one hour over Zoom. Unfortunately, the first lesson is not free, but I'm unable to change the status here. When I was starting at the beginning of my career, I had trouble finding my authentic voice, and my pursuit of perfection left me anxious and frustrated as a musician. Singing was my first home, but after signing to Capitol Records and always trying to come up with “the next big hit” while being surrounded by thin, conventionally attractive singers who could do things vocally I couldn’t even conceive of, I felt defeated and lost. I didn’t feel like there was a space for my voice. It took me some time and a lot of self-trust and body acceptance, but my vocal range has expanded significantly, and I am more confident than ever as a performer. And more than anything else, I have so much FUN singing. I believe that the pursuit of perfection with music is a lonely and anxiety-ridden road, and my lessons are about getting in touch with your authentic voice, your power, and having fun. I work with children, teens, and adults; beginners, karaoke warriors, professional singers, and people who have never really gotten a chance to know their voices before.
