About Mustafa

My journey with programming started during my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, where I built a strong foundation in core software engineering principles: data structures, algorithms, and the fundamentals that everything else in tech builds on. That foundation is exactly why I believe so strongly in teaching from the basics up. Skipping fundamentals to chase "advanced" topics early is how most self-taught coders end up stuck.

I went on to complete an MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, graduating with Distinction. My dissertation focused on Explainable AI (XAI) for financial decision validation, using techniques like SHAP and LIME to make machine learning models interpretable and auditable, and mathematically testing them. This work is directly relevant to how AI is used responsibly in regulated industries like finance.

Alongside my studies, I've spent 4+ years working as a professional Python engineer, building production backend systems across fintech, e-commerce, and B2B platforms, including a hands-on programme with JPMorgan Chase, where I designed and deployed REST APIs for a real banking platform, building a fully functional banking application. I've worked across the full development lifecycle: architecture, backend implementation, deployment, and presenting live demos to engineering teams.

This combination of strong academic grounding and real industry experience means I don't just teach theory. I teach the way code is actually written and used in the real world, which is exactly what makes the difference between "knowing how to code" and being job-ready or project-ready.

About the lesson

My teaching approach starts with the fundamentals, even if you've never written a line of code before; that's exactly where we begin. I believe a strong foundation is essential before moving on to advanced concepts, so lessons are structured to build your understanding step by step rather than rushing ahead and leaving gaps. Each lesson runs for one hour, giving enough time to properly explain a concept, work through examples together, and practise hands-on before moving forward.

You don't need any prior coding experience to start. My job is to take you from zero knowledge to becoming a confident, expert coder. I've tutored people with this exact approach before, guiding complete beginners to a strong, practical grasp of programming.

In terms of background: I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and an MSc in Data Science and AI (achieved with Distinction), along with 4+ years of industry experience as a professional software engineer. I bring real-world coding practices into lessons, not just theory.

Lessons are suitable for everyone, whether you're a complete beginner, a student working through coursework, or someone looking to sharpen advanced skills; I'll tailor the pace and content to where you are.
