About Melita
I am Melita, originally from India and now based in Cork. Science has been a constant thread through everything I've done — from my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology to five years working as a research scientist in genomics, to my MSc thesis at UCC investigating infant gut microbiome pathways. I'm genuinely passionate about biology and I find it hard to understand why anyone would find it boring — the subject is alive, literally.
Outside the lab, I've spent years tutoring students one-to-one and supporting learners in community settings. I'm patient, calm under pressure, and I adapt quickly to how each person learns best. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all explanations — if something isn't clicking, I'll find another way in until it does. Students tend to find me approachable and easy to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. That matters a lot in science, where confusion is part of the process

I hold an MSc in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology from University College Cork and a degree in Biotechnology, backed by five years of professional research experience in genomics and molecular biology at a leading clinical science company. I don't just know these subjects academically — I've worked with them daily in a real research environment.
My lessons focus on building genuine understanding, not rote learning. I break down complex topics — cell signalling, gene expression, microbial physiology, inheritance patterns — into clear, logical steps tailored to each student's pace and learning style. Whether you're preparing for Junior Cert, Leaving Cert, or college-level biology, I'll identify exactly where you're losing marks and fix it. Sessions are structured, focused, and practical. I'm available in Cork city and online.
