About Emmanuel

My name is Emmanuel Akyeampong, and I am passionate about tutoring.

I love to tutor as I see it as a fantastic opportunity to give students the confidence they need. Having prior experience in tutoring students years 9-11, preparing for their GCSE Maths and Science course, I have a vast understanding of transitioning the Key Stage 3 level knowledge to helping the student increase their confidence and in tackling and acclimatising to more difficult Key Stage 4 topics. I also have experience in analysing the student's course specs for both GCSE and iGCSE levels, aiding students in filling the gaps in their knowledge to reach their specifications and gaining an optimum understanding of each topic.

I would ensure that students progress in their knowledge of each topic by assessing them. Having experience teaching years 9 - 11 and an iGCSE student, it was crucial for me to check their understanding of each topic by explaining a concept and pausing to allow them to answer a short question. I believe my listening and explanation skills are invaluable. I also strongly believe in students consolidating their understanding of topics through knowledge-based style homework questions and past papers. This helps the student develop their own skills of problem-solving and tackling questions independently, training themselves for upcoming examinations. It also gives me perspective on whether I had explained a topic well enough for the student to tackle the questions I set and how best I can improve my teaching strategy.

About the lesson

My first lesson is just a gentle introduction to see where my student's strengths and weaknesses are at. This is done by asking the student to answer a few questions on each topic they are confident in. I then do an assessment for me to see what kind of learner my student is (visual, audio, kinaesthetic) and tailor lessons to suit their needs.

I like to teach by thoroughly explaining topics, followed by lots of exercises to practice and past paper questions/ full papers. I then set some homework to build on what we have done in the lesson.
