About Neeti
Hello, I’m Neeti. I studied English Literature at the University of Mumbai and then at the University of Edinburgh, where I completed my MSc. Along the way I edited my undergraduate magazine and later joined FORUM, Edinburgh’s postgraduate journal, as Assistant Editor.
Editing taught me what I now love teaching: the moment a muddled paragraph turns into a sharp one. I spent years telling writers exactly what their argument needed, where it lost its way and how to say it better. In lessons, that means you get honest, specific feedback rather than vague encouragement, and you learn to spot those fixes yourself.
I like books, and I like helping people argue about them well. Bring me a Shakespeare play you can’t crack, a poem that refuses to make sense, or an essay that feels stuck, and we’ll work it out together. Expect careful preparation, a friendly pace and lessons shaped around your texts, your exam board and your goals.

Hello, I’m Neeti. I help students turn vague ideas about a text into clear, confident, well-argued essays. I believe good literary analysis comes from learning to ask better questions of a text, not from memorising someone else’s interpretation.
My lessons are built around you and your work. We start with where you are: the first session includes a short diagnostic, where we look at a piece of your own writing or a passage you find difficult, so I can see what’s working and what isn’t. From there, we focus on close reading, slowing down over language, structure and form, then building up to a clear argument. You’ll receive specific, constructive feedback on structure, clarity and style, so you know exactly what to change and why. I also teach skills you can reuse, such as planning essays, writing strong topic sentences, using quotations well and referencing correctly, so you can work independently by the end. Between lessons you’ll get short, targeted tasks, like a paragraph rewrite or an essay plan, never busywork.
I can help with poetry, the novel, Shakespeare and drama, close reading, essay structure, thesis building, referencing, dissertation support and personal statements for English applications.
Lessons last 60 minutes and take place online or in person in Edinburgh. I adapt the pace and focus to your texts and exam board.
My lessons are for school students (National 5, Higher, GCSE, A-level), undergraduates and adult learners, including international students and anyone preparing for a resit. Whether you’re aiming for top marks or just want to feel less lost with a text, you’re welcome.
If you’d like to try a session, send me a message here and tell me which text or essay you’re working on.
