About Salma

Hello! I am an MSc Astrobiology & Planetary Sciences graduate from the University of Edinburgh. My courses were highly interdisciplinary, ranging from bioinformatics to remote sensing. My Master's thesis investigated whether complexity can be considered an agnostic biosignature using computational modellling.

I graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Biology with Professional Experience. I undertook a 1-year placement at Osaka University where my research revolved around octopus histology. During my time as an undergraduate student, I focused on evolutionary biology, and also took courses in astrophysics, biochemistry, etc. My final-year project was science communication-based.

During high school, I was an IB student who did HL Biology, HL Physics, HL English A: Language and Literature, SL Chemistry, SL Maths, and SL Arabic B.

I am set to start my PhD in Earth and Planetary Science next spring.

I am most experienced in tutoring biology, but have also tutored chemistry and SATs, and am happy to help with physics, too. I have also always been "the-student-who-helps-teach-other-students" in academic settings! :-)

About the lesson

I mainly teach high school-level biology (IB, A-Levels, etc), but lower levels are welcome, too! I typically do 1-2 hour lessons.
I am very passionate about teaching, and as such, my undergraduate dissertation was on investigating the effectiveness of communicating scientific concepts through creative mediums. I thus have a good understanding of the human brain's receptiveness to scientific concepts, and how to effectively communicate science. I aspire to become a professor of astrobiology.
My priority is to not just help students understand concepts they're meant to understand, but to also instil in them the skills and curiosity a scientific mind must have.
