About Susan
Once a science geek always a science geek...
I'm an earth scientist with a long and successful career in the energy and not-for-profit sectors. My experience includes working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education.
Educated in geology, geophysics, biology and journalism, my diversified background includes: working as a professional geologist and geophysicist in the petroleum industry; conducting science and environmental education outreach to K-12 students; studying climate change in Antarctica and the Arctic, both above and below the water; and working as a television journalist, freelance writer and corporate communications specialist.
I bring a unique continuum of educational and career experience to the table: As a science educator and communicator, I insert "the Arts" into STEM education, providing an innovative and fun STEAM approach to mastering science and technology subjects.

Science is fun and forms part of our everyday lives!
I employ hands-on, experiential learning methods, linking text book subjects to real-life scenarios for students. My communication and story-telling skills enable me to dissect and convey complex subjects to students.
I teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) subjects with an artistic flair, inserting "the Arts" into my lesson plans. This more inclusive STEAM model engages, inspires and empowers students to tackle most science and technology subjects.
I seek collaborative, two-way exchanges with students, exploring far-ranging ideas and concepts. My skill set is well suited to working with students in middle and high schools, as well as with students enrolled in post-secondary institutions (colleges and universities).
