About Emilie
I have two bachelors degrees from the University of Southern California in Biology and Earth Sciences. I am currently in my last year of my PhD at MIT. I work in a lab doing microbiology and growing bacteria, incorporating bioinformatics in my research, and using fundamental biology knowledge to understand early microbial life on Earth and potential for life on other planets.

My personal educational experience has shaped the way I teach. I consistently struggled to grasp topics taught to me throughout middle school and high school because topics were thrown at me with heavy detail and no context. When I teach, I aim to break down large concepts into digestible bits and always link each component of learning to the larger picture. I believe understanding the larger concepts such as cellular metabolism and why a cell would even need to metabolize, for example, makes learning individual pathways, proteins, and RNA much easier.
I also want to cater to your learning style and help you feel excited about a subject that may seem difficult. I have Biology and Earth Science degrees from the University of Southern California and am currently a PhD student at MIT. I can teach any level (elementary school, middle school, and high school) of biology, microbiology, and cell biology, and can make lesson topics as simple or complex as you would like. A typical lesson would focus on whatever topics you wish to cover within this session. We will discuss the topics together and go over any areas that are unclear to you until it makes sense. I am here to help you learn, so if there are any learning methods that work best for you, please let me know
