About Mikkel
I am an accomplished drummer originally from Denmark. I have lived in New York for 4 years. I recently graduated from Manhattan School of Music and currently work as a performer and music teacher in NYC. Throughout my career I have performed, toured and recorded drums extensively both in the US and internationally. In my more than 20 years of drumming I have studied with musicians like Obed Calvaire, Kendrick Scott, Marcus Gilmore, Louis Hayes, to name a few. I have experience playing both pop, rock, Latin, hip-hop, funk and jazz. I primarily work as a jazz drummer but I believe all of these genres are deeply connected. I use all the experience and insight I have gained throughout my career in my playing and teaching and I have an unquenchable thirst for music!

As a teacher my top priority is to help the student find something that inspires them about music and playing drums. I welcome students with both little to no experience and advanced drummers. I try to meet my students at their level and focus on things that feel meaningful and fruitful for their personal development. I am methodical in my approach to teaching and have a lot of insight into the technical aspect of playing drums. I try to help students build a strong foundation by providing exercises that can be used on a daily basis. A typical lesson with me includes working on technique with a special focus on body movement and relaxation. Lessons also feature listening and analysis of rhythms combined with exercises for coordination and sound. I am a very patient teacher and I see my role as supportive while trying to push the student to reach their full potential. Above all, learning drums should be fun and there should be room to explore and get in touch with your creative side. I want everybody to experience how playing music can be fun, magical, powerful, beautiful, healing, uplifting etcetera.
