About Inyene
As Bernard Malamud put it, "I love the pleasures of the short story!" but I also write novels, nonfiction, and memoirs. I’m a CFF fellow with a decade of teaching creative writing to K-12 students, high school students, and adults' intensive writing workshops.

For my K-5 students, I gravitate towards the discovery of language, forms, and the simple pleasures of reading and comprehension to spark a natural joy in literature as much as to recall words, spellings, and basic sentence development.
For middle schoolers, we are developing language, building creative arcs, exploring classical literature, literary forms and devices, and becoming knowledgeable about the roles of place and image in narratives.
My high schoolers are developing their voices, exploring genres, and considering how they fit best into the stories they write about the self, families, places, communities, and, more broadly, as global citizens.
My college and adult learners are building confidence, learning about the business of writing, the industry, publishing, conferences, as well as the act of stepping out, determining their genre, the issues or interests that keep them awake at night, and building advanced skills in voice, setting, plot, and character. My adult learners, depending on their specific journey, complete a first draft, learn to write a short story with complex characters, write an award-winning college essay, or simply explore the business of traditional publishing.
Overall, my writers, young and mature, hold a sense of responsibility for the stories they tell about others, and the stories others tell about them. The stories encountered, and the ones untold, that must be written.
With a Bachelor's in Media and Communications and an MFA in Creative Writing, and over a decade of teaching creative writing to K-12, high school, and college writing classes, leading small-group workshops, and providing intensive creative writing mentorship, I understand the challenges of writing of any kind for any age, so I bring a mix of attentiveness, care, and motivation for age-appropriate tutoring, developing individualized plans to align with a writer's personal journey.
