I write and self-publish non-fiction essays, and have been a writing tutor on and off for years. I’ve taught dozens of students of varying proficiency levels, having worked most recently with a group of high schoolers in China who were applying to colleges in the United States and who needed help with their essays.

My teaching method is largely Socratic. I want students to be able to grasp the concepts they’re learning so that they can continue to use the tools they acquire in a lifelong process of learning. Learning any concept is a matter of asking questions and finding answers, but frequently students don’t know exactly what questions to ask. I find this method tends to engage a student’s natural curiosity and gives them fundamental tools they’ll need in every discipline and in every stage of life.
