About Nathan
What excites me about teaching guitar is the moment when students stop thinking about playing and start actually making music. That shift—from imitation to expression—is what I help guide in every lesson. My approach blends structured skill-building with creative autonomy. Whether you're just starting out or working toward a professional goal, we focus on developing precision, control, rhythm, and expression right from the start. But we also explore songwriting, arranging, and improvising early on—because those skills teach you to think musically, not just mechanically. Every lesson is a collaboration. We work with songs, styles, and techniques that speak to your goals, while also exploring unfamiliar genres or tools to expand your range. I often use looping, layering, or DAW-based projects to help students hear themselves in context, especially when they’re building confidence. One of the most fulfilling parts of my work has been helping students who felt “stuck” creatively rediscover joy by turning basic chord shapes into original compositions. I teach theory through function—asking, for instance, “What does this chord do emotionally?” rather than just “What is it called?” I emphasize exploration and experimentation: What happens if you detune a string? Can you make a melody out of harmonics? Lessons are paced for consistency and depth, with space for surprises and new interests. My aim is to help each student become a well-rounded, independent guitarist—someone who doesn’t just play well, but thinks and feels musically.

In my lessons, I aim to create a positive and inspiring space where guitar skills and creativity flourish together. We focus on foundational techniques—posture, hand positioning, strumming, and chord changes—always applied to music you love, from blues and folk to rock and pop. I emphasize practical music theory to help you understand chord progressions, rhythm, and phrasing, making your playing musical and expressive.
Communication is crucial; I explain concepts clearly and adapt lessons to your needs and learning style, using visual aids, backing tracks, and rhythmic tools. Learning guitar should be enjoyable and motivating, not confusing. To inspire, I share stories from both famous guitarists and everyday students who have overcome challenges. Along with playing technique, I teach tone control, stage readiness, effective practice habits, music reading, and improvisation. Whether you play for fun or performance, I’m dedicated to your journey.
