About Meghan
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old! I went to university a long time to help me become a good one. I have taught at universities and high schools since 2012. I started tutoring in 2004.
My work history:
2004 - present: English Tutor for National 5 and Higher. Working in West Lothian, Falkirk, Stirling council areas.
2017 - present: Classroom teacher in High Schools, working in English.
2023-2024 - Teacher of Learning Support 0.5fte alongside my routine job in English.
2012 - present. University lecturer including termtime courses (2012-2016) and summer school courses (2013-present).
My qualifications:
2016-2017 - Post-graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary).
2016 - PhD in English Literature
2010 - MLitt - Master of Letters in Modern Scottish Writing
2009 - BA (Hons) first class English Studies.

I know that requiring help, 'struggling' and 'mistakes' are all part of the road to success. I will be understanding of your child and their needs and their specific journey. Everyone is different, but my extensive experience with over 40 tutees over the years will help me to understand your learner. I have had feedback from parents that describes me as 'knowledgeable', 'patient' and 'Meghan immediately put the kids at ease'.
I demonstrate everything! Clear, written success criteria are made in collaboration with my tutee and then we go over them. I am adept at 'showing what a good one looks like'. I am extremely comfortable teaching the compulsory Scottish Literature component as this was my specialism during my 11 years at university. I will chunk down the tricky bits into manageable steps and components. I will make your young person aware of their strengths and help them build on these.
