About Ashraf
I have a broad background in both the sciences and the social sciences. I'm a medical graduate with a BSc in Public Health, who moved into the Political and Social Sciences- gaining an MA in Education and Development- primarily focusing on Educational Participation in Uganda and Malawi. Due to family reasons, I've been UK based over the last few years working on a flexible schedule. Prior to March 2020 I was working a Supply Science Teacher for a teaching agency across Leeds based schools (Leeds East, The Grammar School, Horsforth) for 3 days a week since 2016. Since the start of the pandemic I've tutored 3 of my former pupils via Zoom in preparation for their GCSEs and A-Levels.

I am flexible in my approach, and appreciate everyone's learning needs and goals are different. I relish the opportunity to provide the kind of one-on-one support you're usually unable to provide in a classroom setting. I'm a big believer in participatory learning and will expect students to also think about their goals and objectives, and as such am happy to help plan lessons to address areas of concern from both the student and the parents if appropriate. Of course I will structure learning to meet syllabus objectives which are dependent on the relevant examination board. However beyond this I aim to contextualise the subject matter and foster an understanding of the material, which will help develop rational thinking skills which continue to be useful beyond given examinations. I believe honesty and clear communication is key in obtaining the best learning outcomes, and will be transparent of my expectations, and will continually feedback to check if my student's needs are being met. I do think technology is core in the modern learning process, and will shape projects around the students own affinities and experience to ensure their time is spent most effectively and key objectives are met.

Ash tutored my son Callum in the lead up to his A-level mocks. Callum was really struggling with Organic Chemistry, and Ash really broke things down for him in a way he could understand. He was patient and likeable, and would definitely recommend. Callum was projected a C but ended up getting a high B! Really supportive and positive!
