About Thilini
I'm Thilini, a medical student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Entry to medical school here is through a national selection process based on Advanced Level results, so my place required strong grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, the same subjects I now teach.
I've been tutoring science for O level and A level students for several years, and I've kept it up alongside my degree because I enjoy it. Working one-to-one over that time has made me quick at spotting where a student's understanding is actually breaking down, which is usually a step or two before the question they're stuck on.
Studying medicine means I work with biology constantly, at a level well beyond what IGCSE and O Level require. That helps me explain things properly rather than just repeating what a textbook says, and it means I can answer the "but why does that happen?" questions that often get brushed aside.
I'm organized and reliable about scheduling, I reply to messages quickly, and I prepare for every lesson in advance. If a student needs something specific, extra practice on a topic, or help planning revision before an exam, I'll put it together.
I'm patient, and I don't make students feel awkward for not understanding something. Most people who struggle with biology aren't bad at it; they've just had it explained badly once and never recovered.

I'm a medical student at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and I teach Biology online to IGCSE and O Level students. Biology is what I study every day, so I teach it as a subject that makes sense rather than one to be memorised.
Every student starts with a short diagnostic session. I find out which topics are solid, which are shaky, and what your exam timeline looks like, then build a plan around that instead of working through the syllabus front to back.
A typical lesson has three parts. We revisit anything from last time that hasn't settled, then work through new content with diagrams and worked examples, then apply it to real past paper questions.
I put a lot of weight on exam technique, because most lost marks aren't from not knowing the biology. They come from misreading command words, giving three points where the mark scheme wants two specific ones, or answering "explain" as if it were "describe." We work on that directly using official mark schemes.
I've been tutoring O Level and A Level science students in Sri Lanka for several years, so I'm used to spotting exactly where an explanation is breaking down. Lessons are relaxed and question-friendly, I'd much rather you stop me than nod along.
