About Mary

Hello! I’m a medical student with a strong background in biology and the sciences, and I love helping students build confidence in subjects that can sometimes feel overwhelming. My goal as a tutor is to make complex ideas clear and approachable by breaking them down step by step and connecting them to real-world examples.

I work with students to strengthen both their understanding of key concepts and their problem-solving skills. During sessions, we review challenging material, practice problems together, and develop strategies that help students approach exams and assignments with confidence.

I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through difficult topics. Whether a student needs help keeping up in class, preparing for an exam, or building a stronger foundation in science, I’m happy to help.

My goal as a tutor is not only to help students arrive at the correct answer, but to help them understand why the answer is correct and eventually learn how to study more efficiently. I focus on building strong conceptual foundations so that students can confidently apply what they learn to new problems. In science especially, I find that students succeed when complex topics are broken down into clear, manageable steps and connected to real-world examples.

I emphasize active learning and guided problem-solving. Rather than lecturing for long periods, I work through questions with students, encouraging them to explain their reasoning and think through each step. This helps identify gaps in understanding and builds critical thinking skills. I also use diagrams, analogies, and practice problems to make abstract concepts more intuitive and memorable.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previously covered material or any questions the student has from class or homework. We then work through the topic of focus together—this may include reviewing key concepts, practicing problems, and discussing strategies for approaching similar questions on exams. I like to end sessions by summarizing the main takeaways and identifying a few practice goals for the student to work on independently.

As a medical student with a strong background in the sciences, I bring both subject expertise and firsthand experience with rigorous academic environments. I understand the challenges students face when learning complex scientific material and can share effective study strategies that I’ve used successfully myself. I’m also patient, encouraging, and committed to creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.

I tutor middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in science subjects such as biology, chemistry, and related coursework. I can help with homework support, exam preparation, strengthening foundational concepts, or developing better study strategies for science classes.
