I identify a student’s weak areas first because my ultimate goal is to improve performance. I believe in long-term recall and application of previously learned material and so I employ spontaneous testing via quizzes or verbal questioning in an environment where the student doesn’t feel pressurized. I don’t believe in giving take home assignments. I think tutoring should be an add on aid to what is already being taught and so the hours spent tutoring should be enough to boost performance.
