About Hamzah

am a qualified doctor with a background in Biochemistry, having studied at the University of Nottingham. I have extensive knowledge and experience across both biology and chemistry. I have previously provided private tuition to A-level students, supporting them to achieve their full academic potential and improve their grades to meet the competitive entry requirements for health-related degree courses.

About the lesson

My teaching style revolves around you. Since I have a plethora of knowledge in Biology and Chemistry, I can tailor the knowledge around what you need to know and expand on the knowledge so that it would be of use to you when you enter into university. For example, at A level biology, it is expected that students understand the basics of glycolysis and Krebs cycle, whereas I would like you to understand it and then incorporate the learning, contextualise it so that you could apply it to future studies. This has been proven to work, to help students understand the concepts and then apply them on exams so that they are not learning for the sake of a grade but are learning for the sake of wanting to learn and understand and gain a greater appreciation for the concepts, applicable to their chosen degree. My lessons are tailored to you! I would first take what you already know, and work on what you don’t. I base my lessons on the criteria set by the exam boards, underlining what needs to be taught and going through each syllabus point to make sure everything is understood. Once taught, I then help make revision materials like notecards, posters or mind maps. All of this helps aid active recalling which is revision technique I help teach each of my students. Once a topic is taught, I go through some exam-style questions and how examiners are likely to ask questions based on the syllabus. I also provide further exam questions for the tutee to take away and practise. Throughout my teachings, I go through revision techniques which is something not many tutors help with. Coming from a very scientific background, I’ve enhanced my revision techniques and have tried everything to now know what works and what doesn’t. I also help with exam technique too. This is probably the most important lesson to be learnt as you may know the content, but without knowing how to answer the questions, you won’t get any marks for knowing the content.
