About Garin
I am a student-athlete at Stanford University. I pride myself on hard work and quality results. I informally tutored all through high school and have also informally tutored at Stanford as well. In high school, I never received lower than an A in any math or physics class. In fact, I passed my calculus based mechanics class with a 97% as my final grade. I taught myself calculus 1 and 2 and I am 100% confident that if I can teach myself, I can teach someone else!

STEM is not a spectator sport! To learn, one must do!
My philosophy of learning everything relating to math is that because math builds on itself as you progress, most struggles come not from the topic being intrinsically difficult, but because of the shaky foundation from which the student is trying to build upon. So, I will not hesitate to explain in depth the most simple of topics if the student does not understand.
My teaching philosophy for physics is guided practice problems. In my opinion, physics is essentially translating English to numbers to describe a situation. So, this often relies on intuition and there is no better way to build intuition than practice!
My typical lesson plan will include a lecture, in which the student can ask as many questions as they want, followed by example problems where I will walk the student through methods. Finally, I will give the student practice problems that I have prepared prior to the lesson and ask them questions to guide them through.
I can also help with homework! For homework, I usually have the student send me their assignment prior to the lesson so I have time to prepare. Depending on how confident the student is in their understanding of the topic, we could either go straight in to guided problems or start with a lecture! I'm very flexible with homework help.
I intent my lessons to be mostly for high schoolers, however I can teach middle school level math as well!
