About Jessica
Hi! I am Jessica, a second-year university student in Ottawa, Canada. I have been tutoring since high school, mostly in English and History, along with IB Language and Literature and IB History recently. As someone who really enjoys reading and writing, I hope to make my sessions as engaging and stress-free as possible. To my own understanding, overcoming your mental barrier is the first and most important factor to perform better. Therefore, my lesson plan emphasizes a personalized plan for your studying methods, interests and personality to optimize efficiency. Your lesson will be built on consistency, building fundamentals and filling in any gaps of knowledge you may have.

I have 3 years of teaching experience in total. I have been tutoring English and History to my peers and elementary students since high school. Building fundamentals in high school English and History is important; it gives students a strong foundation to apply and elaborate knowledge in writing and reading. My teaching method emphasizes structuring, analyzing, and understanding concepts as a framework rather than simply rote memorization. I would start with a short quiz to assess your strengths and weaknesses and determine which teaching methods would optimize your understanding, then sketch out your personalized plan.
After graduating from IB in May 2025, I have been tutoring IB Language and Literature along with IB History (European History), both in HL, and proofreading numerous academic essays, including IAs. As someone who raised my own grade from a 3 to a high 5 in less than a year, I know exactly what you need to do to improve. I believe you do not need to study more; you just need to optimize your strategy by focusing on building more nuanced arguments, historical analysis and referencing credible historical perspectives. With my collection of sample essays and cheat sheets, especially on Papers 2 and 3, you will get straight to the point without wasting too much time and energy!
