About Erin
I am a mature 5th-year medical student with a previous degree in English. Before entering medical school, I returned to education and completed A-levels in Biology and Chemistry, achieving an A grade in both. Having studied A-level Biology relatively recently myself, and subsequently built upon this knowledge throughout my medical degree, I understand both what is required to succeed in Biology exams and how challenging some of the subject can initially seem.

My approach to tutoring is friendly, encouraging and tailored to the individual student. I aim to make Biology feel understandable rather than overwhelming by breaking difficult topics down into clear, manageable concepts and ensuring students understand the underlying principles rather than relying purely on memorisation.
I use a combination of clear explanations, diagrams, active recall, practice questions and exam-style questions. I particularly like encouraging students to explain concepts back to me in their own words, as this is a great way of identifying gaps in understanding and strengthening long-term recall.
For GCSE and A-level students, I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique. Knowing the content is only part of succeeding in Biology; students also need to understand how to interpret questions, identify what the examiner is looking for and use appropriate scientific terminology to gain marks. We can work through past-paper questions together and identify where and why marks may have been lost.
As a medical student, I can also bring Biology to life by showing how topics such as cell biology, genetics, immunity, infection, homeostasis, the cardiovascular system, respiration and human physiology relate to medicine and real-life clinical situations. I find that understanding why something matters often makes it much easier to remember.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on the student's needs. Sessions can focus on a particular topic the student is struggling with, preparation for an upcoming exam, revision of previously covered material or a combination of teaching and exam-question practice.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-level Biology students, including students who are aiming for higher grades as well as those who need additional support to build their confidence and understanding. I am also happy to support students considering medicine or other healthcare-related degrees, and can offer insight into how the Biology they are studying now develops into university-level medical science.
Above all, I want my lessons to be a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and working through difficult concepts at their own pace.

I honestly couldn’t recommend my tutor highly enough. They helped me enormously with both A-Level Biology and Chemistry, breaking down difficult topics and explaining them in a way that finally made everything click.
They were incredibly patient, knowledgeable and supportive, and always adapted the lessons to the areas I was struggling with most. As well as improving my understanding, they helped me with exam technique, confidence and how to approach difficult questions.
Their support played a huge part in helping me pass my A-Levels, and I’m genuinely so grateful for all the time and effort they put into helping me. If you’re looking for a Biology or Chemistry tutor who genuinely cares about their students and gets results, I would 100% recommend them. ️️️️️Erin is very lovely and such a good teacher. She takes her time to explain things thoroughly and checks your understanding throughout. Would highly recommend!
