About Ellie
Hi there! I'm really looking forward to helping you with maths. I know maths can sometimes feel tricky, but I promise we'll work through it together, and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve! You might be wondering who I am and why I'm here to help. Well, I'm currently studying for my Masters degree in Education Research, and I already have a degree in Education. That means I've spent a lot of time learning about how people learn and how the education system can teach people, better. I've also studied Computer Science, which is really useful for understanding how maths connects to the world around us. I've spent time working in a secondary school, helping students just like you with their maths, especially those who find it a bit challenging. I'm really good at breaking down tough topics and finding different ways to explain things until they click for you. Plus, I have personal experience with needing extra help in maths – when I was in primary school, I had a maths tutor too! I'm also dyslexic, so I understand what it's like when things feel a bit harder. That tutoring really made a difference for me, helping me to do well in my exams and even finish top of my class at university! This journey showed me how much of a positive impact the right support can have. My goal is to help you feel more confident with maths, whether you're trying to get ahead in class, prepare for your 11+ or SATS exams, tackle GCSE Foundation maths, or just improve your everyday numeracy skills. We'll go at your pace, focusing on what you need most, and we can even link maths to your own interests to make it more fun, and hopefully we can have a laugh along the way! Are you ready to give this a go? Outside of tutoring, I'm pretty busy! I'm heavily involved with Scouts. I have a special role here in Lincolnshire where I help organise big events for lots of people and make sure we have amazing activities for everyone to enjoy. I also have a national role with Scouts, working to make sure it's an inclusive and welcoming place for absolutely everyone. When I'm relaxing, you'll probably find me playing on my Nintendo Switch or cheering on the women's football team. I'm really excited to start our lessons and help you discover how capable you are in maths. We'll build your skills and your confidence together!

My lessons are designed to be flexible and highly personalised, ensuring your child gets the most effective support. I don't believe in a one size fits all approach, so I adapt my methods to suit each learner. My core teaching methodology follows a "I do, We do, You Do" model, I will first demonstrate a concept, then we will work through examples together, and your child will practise independently with my guidance. Key aspects of my approach include: -Repetition and reinforcement: Revisiting topics to ensure information is retained. -Personalised engagement: Factoring in a child's interests into lessons - Flexible problem solving: If a concept isn't clicking, we can break it down or try a different approach -Real world application: Showing how maths can be relevant. -Student-Paced learning: We will always go at the pace of the learner. Typical lesson length: Lesson duration is flexible, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, we will discuss what works best for your child's attention span, goals and schedule. My Qualifications and experience: I hold a First Class BA(Hons) in Education, and a CertHE in computer science, providing a strong foundation for teaching mathematical skills. My practical experience included working in an alternative secondary provision for children with challenging behaviours. Here I spend a significant amount of time supporting GCSE maths lessons as well as leading maths interventions. I also have personal experience as a young carer for my autistic sister, these experiences have made me familiar with working with young people with SEND. Who are lessons for: My lessons are suitable for a wide range of learners from primary age up to GCSE foundation level. I can provide support for: - Building Maths confidence -Catching up if a child is a bit 'behind' in class -Preparation for specific exams such as the 11+, SATS and GCSE Maths (foundation) -Students who would benefit from improving basic numeracy skills
