About Mike
I’m a qualified secondary teacher with many years’ experience teaching and tutoring Maths and Science.
I specialise in Maths and Physics from KS3 to A Level, with Chemistry also available to GCSE. I have recently added Astronomy to GCSE as well.
My approach is structured from the outset. I begin by establishing a student’s current level, identifying strengths, gaps in knowledge and areas for development, then build a clear programme of study around that. This means tuition is planned and progressive rather than simply reacting to the latest homework task or isolated difficulty.
One-to-one teaching also gives me the chance to understand how an individual student thinks: what they genuinely understand, where the gaps are, what they are unsure about and what may be holding them back.
I encourage students to talk openly about the material, ask questions and tell me when something has not made sense. That dialogue is important to me, because it often reveals much more than simply marking a set of answers.
My aim is not just to improve grades. I want students to understand their subjects more deeply, become increasingly confident and independent, and begin to expect more of themselves. Where appropriate, I also want to encourage them to think beyond the next test or examination and consider what they might be capable of studying next.
For home-educated students, I can offer a complete structured Maths and Science programme, including schemes of work, regular teaching, independent study, assessment, progress tracking and preparation for formal examinations.
For students who do not need a full curriculum programme, I also offer focused subject tuition, work on specific gaps and short-term booster or exam-preparation sessions.

Lessons are structured around each student’s starting point, goals and learning needs.
I begin with an assessment of strengths, gaps in knowledge and areas for development. From this, I build a clear programme of study so that lessons follow a purposeful progression rather than simply reacting to individual homework tasks or isolated difficulties.
For students attending school, this usually means working alongside the curriculum while addressing gaps, strengthening understanding, developing problem-solving skills and preparing effectively for GCSE or A Level examinations.
For home-educated students, I can provide a complete structured programme in Maths and Science, including a planned scheme of work, regular teaching, independent study between sessions, assessment, progress tracking and preparation for formal examinations.
For students who perhaps do not need a full curriculum programme, I also offer focused tuition in specific subjects or topics, whether that means closing particular gaps, preparing for an assessment or examination, or providing a short series of booster sessions.
I teach Maths and Physics from KS3 to A Level, with Chemistry also available, and Astronomy as a specialist subject.
