About Ryan
I have worked as a freelance tutor for approximately ten years in Perth, Western Australia, and I have recently moved to London.
I enjoy teaching because, philosophically, I believe that the most important thing we can do with our lives is to continue learning. I feel privileged to be able to be a part of this lifelong journey of learning, particularly at an age where students can struggle with confidence and self-esteem in the face of the expectations and rigidity of the education system.
I believe that every person has their own way of learning, and that in a more formal education setting, such as a classroom at school, they may not be allowed or encouraged to learn in the way that best suits them. I enjoy working with my students to understand how they learn, what they find helpful and what they do not, and tailoring my lessons to suit their individual needs.

My favourite aspect of one-on-one tutoring is that I am able to really tailor my classes to my student's individual needs, skill level, and learning style, and deliver a focused lesson that will differ greatly from student to student.
In particular, I enjoy helping students identify the strengths that they already have in a given area, and working with them to build up the confidence to challenge and overcome the struggles that they may be having with a particular subject.
I find that my students have generally preferred weekly, 90-minute lessons, though I am able to be flexible on this front - particularly around tests or exams!

I recommend 90-minute lessons as they tend to be a "sweet spot" for many students, though I am able to accommodate lesson lengths of one to three hours.
The travel fee stated in the ad is a maximum, and may be lowered to reflect the actual cost of transit.
