About Shivam

I am a mathematics student with experience tutoring Maths, Further Maths and Spanish online and in person. I've taught a range of students of varying ages and abilities with significant increases in grades and academic confidence as a result. This includes students at a foundation level needing basic skills taught to them, working as a Teachers Assistant in language lessons to provide extra support for spanish students who need Speaking practice in the language, and practice with grammatical structures.

About the lesson

I'm a strong believer in building on a strong base, and find that this is the best way to prepare any student. I plan on using my first session to get an idea of what the general weaknesses are for any given tutee, and then finding what the root issues are with the topics they need help with.
For example
-with Mathematics, many students may struggle with rates of change. Instead of tackling the problem on its own, I would check the student’s understanding of the concepts behind calculus and test their skills in algebra.
-with Spanish, I may have someone ask me about a translation. In this case, I would try to find out if the main issues for said tutee is their knowledge of grammar, or of vocabulary, so that I can then develop these weakness such that they can then translate the text on their own.

Alongside using exam questions, I also find it important to see how students are progressing with their understanding of the concepts behind what they've learned. This could mean I ask a further mathematics student, for example, to go through the process of finding the argument of a complex number.
I also think that it's important to track how interested the student is in the subject. So I also plan on asking about other material about their subject that they may have looked at. I find that any student with a genuine interest in their subject is more likely to do the work required, this is how I myself became motivated to work even harder for my A Levels.

If I am required to use trains or buses, I would prefer to be reimbursed for travel. If I am traveling within a 3 mile radius I can cycle or walk so this own't be necessary.
