About Balaram
I'm a maths graduate from the University of Warwick (MMath) and I am, just like many students seeing this, trying to figure out what to do next with my life whether that be a job or a Phd. The only thing that I know for certain is that I'd like for whichever route I take to allow me to continue practicing maths for as long as I can, which is what motivated me to try tutoring again.

While in sixth form I gave 1-to-1 tutoring sessions (1 hour a week) to struggling GCSE students in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry throughout my 2 years in Sixth form.
I was also asked to tutor lower school students struggling with Mathematics (run independently by the school maths department, 2 hours a week) as well as to help coach gifted lower school students for success in UKMT math challenges (1 hour a week in 2nd year of Sixth form only).
A typical lesson should be 40mins - 1hour and I am aiming to help A-level students and potentially university students if possible.
My teaching approach for A-Level maths/further maths is focussed on maximising the number of problems a student will attempt before it is time to take the exam. To this end, I aim that each lesson should be structured as follows:
1. Introduce a topic (maybe one that has not been seen yet or one that the student struggles with), or ask the student to review a topic that they have already seen.
2. Work through a few canonical examples together, with the aim that the student should be talking through the solution by the last example.
3. The student solves exam style questions of varying difficulty while explaining their solution to me. This last part should make up most of the lesson as this is where the real learning happens - since it is where most of the mistakes will occur :)
If the student is a university student then there will be more emphasis on talking through and understanding concepts and common tricks used in proving things. I can also set exercises/work through them in the lesson using my leftover resources from my own university experience.
