About John
Yes, I have a Ph.D. in math, and I've worked in statistics for years, and did most of an undergraduate physics major. I'm also a winner of the leading university math contest in North America.
More importantly, I have years of teaching and tutoring experience with a wide range of students. For much of that time, I was tutoring 30+ hours per week. I can connect with students and help to get through the nervousness that gets in the way of learning. But I can also provide more expertise than most tutors when more advanced questions come up.

I want you to learn how to think about the subject. Sometimes I will explain things directly. Other times I will point you in the right direction and give just enough help to work it out for yourself. I like to understand the "real reasons" why things work the way they do, and I hope that you will too after we work together!
With a Ph.D. in math, I have years of experience with preparation for all sections of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and similar tests. I do not just teach gimmicks; I teach methods, and I point out how to apply them outside of test taking.
