About José

I am a mathematician with a master's degree in mathematics from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, and right now I am doing my PhD. in mathematics at the University of Calgary in Canada. I have really enjoyed the experience of lecturing and meeting so many students with so many different contexts and cultures along these years. I know from experience the importance of having a professor who, not only is qualified in his area, but also has empathy and willingness to teach and also to learn from his students. So I always try to give my best so that my students feel comfortable and gain confidence.

About the lesson

From my whole experience as a teaching assistant I have learned that the best way to learn mathematics is to do as many exercises as possible in order to develop different strategies and approaches. Thus, I have decided to create a bank of most of the exercises I have found during my teaching duties. This gives me a lot of material for guiding a student to the understanding of a concept through practice. A typical lesson with me, will involve a small overview of the topic focusing on what the student has troubles with, and then solving a variety of exercises together in the topic at hand. I can also guide the student through his exercises and homework problems with examples related to the topic treated. I am patient, and easy going, especially because I really like tutoring students!
