About Yami
I'm a 25-year-old international student studying MSc in Applied Mathematics and I love what I am studying. I've grown up being inclined towards maths ever since I was a kid and somehow also naturally grew into teaching it by being the "math mom" of the group. I love problem solving, and I dearly love maths and everything it has done for the world around us. So teaching excites me because I can't wait to show them what maths has to offer to my best capabilities and understand their points of view around it. A more selfish important note- working around kids keeps me *very* humble and helps me stay relevant and on top of everything the world thinks is cool lately because god forbid you find me lame :P I really really hope to get to work with you, listen to your side of it and get to planning my lessons!

I believe in finding joy while studying, I have previously volunteered as a maths teacher for kids aged 11-15 for 4 years where I actively worked on devising interactive lesson plans, problems that would involve situations from students' area of concern, the history and importance of what they're studying as well as the efficient way of cracking a question to save time. My lessons are structured so that the kids feel excited about learning new things, dividing the time into blocks to get an overview, then learn their understanding of it, and spend time solving few standard questions as well as leave them with some food for thought for them to find more of these problems and solutions if possible in their daily life. Combined with regular check-ins and tests, and attention to where they're falling short, so that I can draft practice lessons that can help them overcome it. A lot of hindrance comes from the fear of taking on a new problem, and I make sure to address it from the very beginning so that they can begin to ease into the subject.
