I have a Masters degree in Biology. Majored in Biology and Chemistry. I have been giving private lessons for the last twenty years since I started my university studies. I am constantly updating my knowledge to include the latest advances in subjects.

I appreciate that teaching science can have varied levels of success depending on the methodology used and the diverse backgrounds of students. Enquiry-based teaching seems like the most promising way to nurture positive attitudes toward science including interest and enjoyment in science-related topics, and participation in science-related activities. Teacher-directed science instruction is associated with better science performance. Enquiry-based, teacher-directed and adaptive teaching are associated with higher expectations among students to pursue a career in science and this is especially strong among girls who are exposed to enquiry-based teaching. Adapting science lessons to the needs of students results in stronger science performance. I find a combination of all three approaches to be most effective.
